Apparently when the Grand Arcade was first built it was meant to be an H double arcadeBut for whatever reason it was never finished, I don’t recall it been two arcades but it is said that when the Tower Cinema was built modifications were made to the arcadeThe Side arcadeThe Pet Shop (well the door)
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

One of the bigest mistakes the council made was to pull down the Empire Theater i know we have other theaters in the city but not with the same design as the Empire.Or is it me looking through rose tinted glasses? What are your thoughts it would be nice to hear your input. The property owners pulled it down with the promise of rebuilding a modern purpose built theatre on another site, which they never did, according to the internet.

Hi Buffaloskinner it was two arcades at one time, if you look at the Grand Theater you can or could see the entrance to the other arcade its a long time since i was in this part of town but the last time i was there you could still see part of the arch that formed the entance to this arcade.ps It was long gone when i was born.

Got a Solway Zipper there. Took some breaking in but lovely once it was. We were inseperable, then someone nicked it. Probably perfect now. Ps Leeds tip, dont ever try faffing about reproofing an oldie - ship it back to the factory and they do an ace job + any necess repairs.PpsThe Factory has an excellent Shop at Jarrow (geordiex probs knows).Yet to my surprise there were no male singers in there...

My 'ex' , completely on a whim, bought us a kitten from the pet shop in 1994, we had to go back next day to buy its sibling which looked so bereft when we left the shop on the first occasion. My ex is long gone, but the cats both lived with me until they died within a couple of months of each other last year.

When I was in the Grand Arcade today I noticed there was some debris clearing/cleaning work going on at the site of what I think may have been a night club until recently (where the pet shop used to be). That site must be getting a spruce up for some reason.
