I love a day out in Bradford! I know its not exactly Leeds, but the place had its own charms, its cheap, there are some good places to eat / drink (Kashmir Cafe / Beehive etc and some good stuff to visit - Media Museum, Undercliffe Cemetery, Cartwright Art Gallery etc etc.. Does anyone recall the 'Bradfords' Bouncing Back' slogan?

Does anyone recall the 'Bradfords' Bouncing Back' slogan? I still quite often spend a few hours in Bradford, usually with one or more friends, and still like the old place. That's not to minimise the awful way its gone down in recent decades which really is sad - the reasons being many and varied as we know. Still for me though the happy memories of the 1940s/50s/60s remain, and despite everything there's still plenty of interest in Bradford. Some great architecture remains if you look around, and mercifully someone has had the guts to initiate the demolition of the awful "new 1960s" centre which had a lot to answer for in the declining image of the City. Recent removal of the wicked footbridges (little used for the proper purpose) over Hall Ings have changed that area favourably too, and the Town Hall is a fabulous building. Also transport connections to every point of the compass are excellent, but to many of we enthusiasts there is one thing missing - the wonder of the last trolleybus system in Britain (ceased 1972) - and no, I'm not comparing that with the expensive and minimal isolated farce which is proposed for Leeds ("NEW GENERATION TRANSPORT" - aaaaargh) which I hope never materialises !! Well, sorry to have "gone off on one" but I do still like dear old Bradford with all its present regrettable aspects
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

blakey + jonlAgree, you've to be 'in the mood' for it (Bdfd). I don't know a Leeds Pub as good as New Beehive. From 2.25 some fine Bradford Scenes + dialogue:-http://youtu.be/4Fi6Kgnzxzc

I must confess I rarely go into Bradford city centre, particularly that section. There's not much there these days since T J Hughes closed down, having taken over the former Co-op Emporium at Sunwin House.Bradford calls itself the "City of Film", but has allowed the former Gaumont (later Odeon) to deteriorate beyond repair. Neither does it publicise that a famous scene in Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" was filmed in Lister Park. I wonder why?I agree that coach loads of visitors are unlikely to home in on Bradford.Would any of you Leodiensians come for a day out? I tried it once but I didn't like it......what a carry on !

The new Mirror Pool is now open. Cost us Bradfordians £24 million, our share of the sale of Leeds/Bradford Airport. It's overlooked by the decrepit Odeon, but our farsighted council has wrapped it up in sheeting so as not to intrude on the view. We're told that the new pool will bring in over a million visitors a year. So, how many on this list have crossed the border to have a look?
