Forgotten Pop Bands of Leeds

Online content filters are now a bit better than they were. A few years back I kept trying to send a message to a reminiscence section of a respected magazine but it kept telling me that it would not be accepted. Having had variously worded messages rejected I eventually emailed the editor about the problem and gave an example of a message that had not been accepted. Even the editor wondered why. On trying various more messages one was suddenly accepted! I quickly realised why, as that messaage was the first I had done where I had not mentioned a scrapbook of mine!I wonder if the SL filter accepts the name of the beck that starts in Leeds and runs through the Towton Moor battlefield! I won't risk the filter system by naming the beck!

It does however, trying to send home from work a link relating to a planning issue involving the name of the ditch through which it runs for part of its journey through Whinmore, I found it was blocked solid and going nowhere!!

I used to have all their records in MINT condition vinyl kept in those see-through plastic wallets, some of them I bought twice for collectables value, then my mum threw the whole lot in a skip when she moved house as I was storing them at hers for "safe-keeping" - what a con eh!I also had a book about The Wedding Present called "Thank Yer Very Glad" and I'm sure it said that Dave Gedge lived in Middleton in Manchester. Myabe he was born in Leeds though I dont know. I do know that they (the Weddoes) lived all over LS6 for a while, including Churchill Gardens and Midland Road as I made a point of living in the same streets when I moved to Hyde Park. I've met and spoken Mr Gedge on several occasions and he seems like quite an affable chap, although I have also spoken to some of the other band members about him - Peter Solowka and Paul Dorrington (Who I went to Kitson College with for a while) and they had some very different things to say about Gedgy ("he's a [edited for content]", "Tosser", "Prima-Donna" amongst others)... Ah well, alls fair in rock an roll I guess (or not as the case might be!). I've just had a message from Dave on Twitter and he said he was born in Armley, but they moved over the hills cos of his dads work.
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

Does anyone remember Jason Rae? He was a saxophonist with the Haggis Horns and was until his death in 2008 of a drugs overdose married to Corinne Bailey-Rae. I used to live in the same street as him and his friends from the music college back in the mid 90s. I can recall the racket they used to make!Sad how these talented young people die so young.

That would be fantastic to hear Dodgy Tatics on YouTube, they were a tight outfit and very musically talented. Sounded like the Police but better. I don't know how to upload but I hope you manage to find someone that can help
