Does anyone remember the 30s and 40s when empty jam-jars were accepted as part currency for entry to the saturday cinema showsDoes anyone remember in the 30s and 40s when empty jam-jars were accepted as part payment for entry into some Saturday cinema shows? There was a picture house at the top of Beeston road - the name I don't recall, which was known as the "Flea Pit". I wonder why?Any ex- Cross-Flatts School pupils still out there? Teachers "Daddy Martin, "Basher Bates" "Joey Hustler". I left about 1942. Did my military service in Malaya.

Dave, I think the Malvern picture house was at the end of Malvern Road but on Beeston Road.....at the foot of Beeston Hill on the right. The one I am thinking about was right at the top of Beeston near the old tram terminus. It was on the left as you go up and on the right was a church, maybe called St. Mary's. It was a pretty run- down place and I remember going down a long side passage to gain entry. Anyone any ideas as to what it was called ? This would be in the 1930s/40s. I lived in Fairfax Road Beeston, off Cemetary Road.
