I took this photo today (Oct 24 2011) when I happened to spot this with the 1924 date when I was looking up. For a bit of fun I thought it may do for a 'Where' in this 'What and Where?' thread. As a clue it is in LS1. I've reduced the photo very much, so I hope it is still not too large.

Is it the upstairs (attic) rooms of what was the Griffin Hotel - I forget its new name - just round the corner from the Scarborough in Bishopgate Street ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Yes, it is on the roof of the Discovery Inn on Bishopgate Street where that building joins the Spencer's bar/pub on Mill Hill (there seemed also to be another such date on the Inn roof further on Bishopgate Street). For interest I thought I would show a photo I also took today (Oct 24 2011) of the Spencer's, which must have been known as the Black Lion at some stage.

Cheers Blakey and uncle mick. I wonder how long the Tetley signs will stay up at Spencer's (late Black Lion) now that (as far as I'm aware) Tetley's is no longer brewed?

That made me     Edit added at 21:18. That post of mine will seem to make no sense now but it did when I posted it in response to a post by uncle mick that has since been deleted.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.
