I wonder if anyone has any information on the Mason's Arms public house, such as when it closed? It was located at the junction of Call Lane and Kirkgate. I have (hopefully!) put a photo here of the site that I took today August 11 2011 when the site caught my eye.I have searched some threads on SL but at its current 94 pages the 'Leeds lost pubs' thread which might have some information was too long to search through. In case anyone enquires about the Mason's Arms in future I thought it may be best to have a thread under that title (I apologise if I should not have done that).Using the 1:2,500 scale maps in the Old Maps UK website I found the 1850 map shows the Regent Inn (RI) but not a Mason's Arms (MA). The next 1:2,500 map was that for 1891 which names both the MA and the RI next to it on Kirkgate. On Call Lane opposite the MA is the Scotsman public house (a tramway ran on Call Lane) and diagonally opposite the MA on Kirkgate is Borough Arms Cocoa House (is is not clear if that was one place or two). The 1893, 1908, 1921 and 1964/70 maps all state PH (which will be public house) where MA, RI and the Scotsman were (the 1908 map and after do not have a Borough Arms Cocoa House).I would appreciate any information, just for interest.

That is appreciated.I searched under the 'Public Houses' and 'General Chat' forums and they did not bring up the 'Inns and Pubs of Kirkgate' thread, so I was not aware of that. I hope my thread may still however be of some general interest.

Leodian - a tip that might help:When you look in the forum list, it only shows those active during the last month.Scroll to the bottom of the list and below to the right is adrop-down menu, click here and choose how far back you want to look.if choosing 'all threads' in the pubd forum, it will reveal all 144 different threads.BTW - search will look for exactly what you ask for, not a near miss in the title!

Through the excellent 'Reference & Resource Information' thread I have come across the Leeds section in Pigot & Co.s 'Directory of Ches, Cumb...., 1828-29 [Part 2: Notts-Yorks & N Wales]'. On image 402 (page 1020 in the directory) under 'Taverns etc' it lists "Masons' Arms, John Gale, Call Lane". I don't know if the current building where the Mason's Arms was is the original one or not, but I'm guessing not as it would seem likely that it must surely have been altered at some stage. There was though a Mason's Arms on Call Lane by at least 1828-29.

For a long time the circular window below the "Mason's Arms" sign was a sign reading"The Yorkshire Curry House"
