There's a new sign on Sweet Street warning drivers that their vehicle is too high to go under the bridge immediately in front of them... Bit scary as I was under the impression it was the job of drivers to work that out for themselves, using the height limit signs. It is a very low bridge, though.

There was a report in the paper the other das with a picture of a skip wagon trapped under a low bridge. The managing director of the company concerned stated that it was 'beyond belief that even a half brain dead lorry driver could miss the great big flashing warning sign as he approached'.

How often do we see pictures of open top buses that weren't meant to be open top Presumably this is an interactive sign like the slow down ones.It is, as you say, the drivers responsibility of PSV and HGV vehicles to know the height and width of their vehicle and then pay heed to the warning signs they encounter on either dimension. I suspect though due to the reindustrialisation of the area there will be a lot more HGVs in the vicinity than there were 5 years ago

Within the last couple of weeks a new road sign has appeared on Victoria Road just past the turn off for Manor Road (Yorkshire Forward) and before the Grove Inn. Its an electronic (LED?) sign which appears to be a little more complex than the motorway matrix signs as for the last couple of mornings its been displaying a red square in the top left hand corner but covering at an estimate less than a 16th of the screen. Oh dear, just over a month in and it was under repair when I passed this morning. I also noticed last night a 6 ft tall and almost as wide big yellow sign outside LeedsMet on Woodhouse Lane northbound portraying much the same info as (afaik) the only message these electric signs have carried i.e. lane closure in the tunnel at weekends, expect delays

The papers this morning seem to be full of inappropriate street signs but not half as inappropriate as the use of the electronic sign on Victoria Road just before The Grove pub for the last 2 days. For the 2nd morning running a quadrant (90 degrees) to a radius of 3 or more miles of inbound rush hour traffic has been sabotaged. The quadrant being anything on or between the M621 northbound and the M621 westbound. I can only guess at how far back up the A653 Dewsbury Road and M621 Northbound from Guildersom was affected but the M621 Westbound was affected probably back to its origin at the M1 and certainly affected the A61 back beyond the jaw bones and well towards Robin Hood. The reason? Just beyond the end of the Bus Lane at Bewley's on Victoria Road two lanes are closed so that "emergency gas repairs" can be carried out. Funny that there appears to be little urgency in making these repairs and it almost certainly adding a minimum of 30 minutes to everyone's journey to work.My complaint. Well because its just beyond the bus lane, 66% (2 out of 3) lanes are closed just before it becomes 4 and where access to all 3 lanes resumes is pretty much where the electronic sign is displaying "roadworks on Victoria Road, delays possible". You don't say . Is it the same message has to be on all boards if not it is entirely inappropriate that commuters who have endured 3 to 4 miles of queuing and taken 40 - 50 minutes to travel that are informed after the event. To rub salt into the wound, knowing the roadworks were still there, I did look into coming in by train, but 2 of 4 "stopper" trains in the 7.45 to 8.45 period on the Wakefield Line were cancelled this morning.

I have just noticed a couple more of these signs have been installed and as Leodian was hinting at Scott Hall Road's "refurb" I wonder whether a certain bike race has anything to do with it given the chaos raod closures in and around Leeds will cause 3 weeks on Saturday.I am sure there must be others but the two I have noticed are on the A61 just before the Stourton gyratory. Certainly early enough for an alternative route to be considered. The other is strangely on Bishopgate Street where you are pretty much committed to the loop to the exit from it you planned regardless. It is also less than half a mile from where 50% of the traffic will already have seen the one on the corner of Victoria Road
