The fountain was removed about 20 years ago I reckon. Yes it would have been better to refer to this as the change which removed all remnants. The are was as you say revamped some time before but the footprint of what went before remained did it not with a tiered are and seating (of sorts)? http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... fier=10373

Looks a bit poor by then (and not working I hasten to add!)http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL

That is the 2nd incarnation of the fountain. Originally it did not have a filter and recycling system. When it was first opened the water ran low and the pumps having less water and more air pumped it high into the sky. Also the school kids put washing up liquid into the water and we had foam parties down Lands Lane. Many a vagrant used it as a bath!! I seem to remember that over £1 million was the final cost of the eyesore. http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... 847903Glad the thing went..

To at least today (Nov 23 2011) the water fountain features in Mandela Garden at the Great George Street end are still not working and may not have done ever since I started this thread. I wonder if they have been abandoned, as surely it cannot after all this time be due to such as a spare parts problem. They should be removed if it seems likely that they are not going to be restarted.

Passing by on Sunday February 19 I noticed the water features next to Great George Street are still not working. They were though in use, as a place to do stunts with bicycles! Some were quite impressive in the short moments that I looked.

Here's an idea. 1. Remove all the stupid "art."2. Make some sunken flower beds.3. Have them dedicated by the Queen.4. Name them, "Memorial Gardens."http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 166255Much greener..

HM will be visiting Leeds this summer and the the area could be cleaned up and renamed Jubilee Gardens (or similar) in her honour.(I've always thought that the War Memorial would be better sited here too.)
