The so-called "draught" was always keg anyway, whether brewed in Dublin or Park Royal, and the real stuff in the bottle seems to have been phased out some years ago. A bottle of Guinness always used to be a reliable standby in days of largely keg-beer pubs, but quite frankly these days the stuff is blatantly trading on its past glories. And remember Ernest Saunders, one-time managing director, convicted of insider share-dealing, who begged not to go to prison owing to suffering from Alzheimers? He wasn't sent down, and "miraculously" recovered.

Hats off to you sir - I enjoyed that.I remember the maltings from 1970 on a school trip and the fermenting rooms remain today as do the old offices which I worked in for years.the place was still full of associated crafts when I started there, and they always produced their own power. What a place!!THANKS

Tetleys bottling department had a "guinness room" they imported so much of the stuff. Pre guinness keg I assume it was always sold in bottles???

Many years back (it will be at least 30 years, very probably more) I went with others on a visit to Tetley's Brewery. It was fascinating seeing the equipment and the processes involved in brewing beer. At the end we were allowed complimentary drinks of Tetley's. I am not a beer drinker as I do not like the taste. I did though try some and found it was quite nice, presumably because it was freshly brewed. I have had very little beer since and have never liked what I have had.

The "Brewery trip" was accomodated most Fridays with working mens clubs getting up trips from as far away as the north east.many people found these trips fascinating and it ended in later years in daily brewery tours allied to a visit to the "Brewery Wharfe".Once the danes moved in they chucked all that out of the window. What I found funny on the trips was those who tried to stay in the free bar once the hosteses came to take them round the brewery as all they were interested in was free beer!!Anyway those days are gone and Tetleys may be closing but it lost it's soul years ago, much better to follow the opening of the wonderful breweries and bars provided by The Leeds Brewery, The Ossett Brewery and Market Town Taverns.Shed no tears for Tets, get in some of the best pubs Leeds has EVER had, in the here and NOW........

Leeds Brewery are having a goodbye to Tetleys in a couple of weeks. They're launching a new beer from three that they want us to choose from and name. More information about it here: http://www.goodbyetetleys.co.uk/

Rubbing their hands with glee if they've any sense, and I suspect they have plenty of sense by making the most of Carlsbergs scandalous sell out of Leeds. I wish them every luck. I'm sure good times will roll for them

Happy for all the big ale brewers to sell out Phil, look what has filled the void.Bottom line is what's a nicer ale and sold in a better range...1. Tetleys Bitter as it's been this last 20 yearsor 2. A choice of Midnight Bell, Leeds Bitter or Leeds PaleEver since I went to Tetleys well before Carlsberg it's always been about fooling the mug punter with keg, or Tank, or cask with preservatives in it, so they can coin in the profits. No scandal here mate just a VICTORY for real ale.The closure of Tetleys is a Victory for Real Ale campaigners and lovers. I've more great memories of the brand and the company than 99.9% of people and more nostalgic than probably 90% of people but there's no sad day here.
