what i find interesting about the photo is that there is no sign of the subway that used to emerge on the opposite side of the road, now filled in.To built such a subway must have been a challenging feat of engineering to do retrospectively and always assumed that it had been dug as part of the original roadworks.(many a lunchtime ciggie under there when i was a pupil at "aggies"in the early 80's).

Number 5 Burmantofts Street is the building I mentioned in my original post! The photo found here:http://goo.gl/r7c8B- which was originally located by Geordie Exile (see above) has some accompanying text stating that it was a branch of the Midland Bank! Could this be wrong?Assuming the British Phone Book is right, then we have surgeries at both nos: 5 and 21 Burmantofts Street.Anyone have a clear memory either way? British Phone Book again. Dr H Sinson is at 21 Burmantofts Sreet

Blimey. I had forgotten that subway. I think it was built in the mid 70s after the photo was taken. I guess it must have been covered over in the late 80s or early 90s. I wonder if they filled it in, or if there is a cavern under the road. Some pals of mine hung-out down there too. Not me though, I was a "Primmy" boy!

Right, I've paged the oracle [me dad].He reckons Stantan and Brown WERE in the place almost on Woodpecker Junction, and that you had to go upstairs above whatever the shop was downstairs. He can't remember if it was a bank.

I have been speaking to Dr. Morris Stanton who confirms his original surgery was at 34 Springfield Terr. off Nippet Ln.He then moved to 5 Burmantofts St with Dr. Barry Brown. As mentioned the building was previously a bank. Also in the same block was a branch of Bloom's ChemistsDr's Stanton, Brown and Sinson are all still with us.In 1970 they moved to Lincoln Green Health Centre.Three practices 1. Stanton, Brown2. Stinson, Irving, Miller, Levin.3. Feldman.
