Pubs closing NOW- in our time.

I noticed a pub RE-OPENING today! The Cock Beck on the corner of Pendas Way is back open as of 5.00pm today - big signs up saying 'under new management' etc. It never had the metal shutters of death though.

Indeed it is - I was going to post the same but you beat me to it! Also The Staging Post hasn't closed - passed there tonight and it's definitely still open.

That's another one gone - The Middleton Arms has shut up shop, went past at lunchtime, and the windows are boarded, and a transit was outside, being loaded up with what looked like bottle fridges and miscellaneous bar equipment. Surely now it won't be long before demolition occurs?

I think it's been mentioned before about the Regent on Regent St due for demo. Thanks to John for reminding me. I was just wondering if the photo of the bus crashing into it in the 70's ever found it's way onto Secret Leeds. I seem to recall they had a photo, or the newspaper clipping framed in the pub itself, but I've yet to find one on the internet, or Leodis for that matter. Anyone know where a shot is of the bus crash?

Given the architectural significance of The Miggy Arms it should surely be listed. Where are you, Leeds Civic Trust?And come to that, what a fine Leeds Brewery pub it would make.

Can't put my hand on the picture just now Phill, but I'm sure I either have one or there's one in a prominent book. It was an icy Winter morning and the bus was on service 67 from Seacroft Monkswood Gate to Bus Station and skidded out of Skinner Lane and across Regent Street. It was one of the first batch of ten of the (then) new MCW Metrobuses, which had somewhat unpredictable fully automatic THREE speed gearboxes, so who knows ??

It would be good if you could get a copy of it on the net Blakey. There isn't one to be found for love nor money. The 67 was my old bus route, I'm still amazed how it ended up in the Regent, even with the icy conditions. Thanks

It's another of those pubs that are in the wrong place. If it was in the city centre or one of the leafy suburbs there would be a justifiable clamour to save it and preserve it for future generations.Unfortunately where it is it's never going to be a "destination" pub and if the locals aren't supporting it then it was always going to be doomed. So, it will almost certainly be demolished and replaced with an out of the box budget supermarket, supplying cut price lager for the masses to drink at home without a hint of irony.
