Leeds Met Building

Hi all, it looks like they are about to start demolishing D block of the old Leeds Met Building (the one next to the ringroad). Has anyone any info on this?cheersRuss

Chameleon, Dervish means the building on Calverley Street, which has been cordoned off for demolition. I passed it earlier this evening, but was also surprised to see the Woodhouse Lane building (the block behind the car park which was the original main entrance when it was the Poly, not the adjacent Leslie Silver Building which is now the main entrance to Leeds Met) also blocked off for demolition on my way home later. There won't be much left of it at this rate!

D Block the concrete rectangular tower which stands by and is effectively a continuation of the blue glass C Block remains part of Leeds Met. F and H block the two stand alone squarish towers have been sold to Downings who built the rusty tower over't'road. As I understand it they will be refurbished inside and reclad, at least partially outside, and converted into mixed use buildings including student accommodation (flats), leisure and retail. Also sold to Downings is G block the 2/3 storey building that links H, F and D block and incorporated the studio theatre, gallery and refectory. The plan for this is to demolish it and along with the car park to open up a public square and thoroughfare between Otley Road (Woodhouse Lane) just south of LIRR and Calverley Street to the east of the LGI. Downings have also obtained from the administrator of the previous owner the "brown field" site that was A block although their intentions for this and subsequent planning permission are still awaited.
