You could write to the present owners - after all, you've got their address! I don't think that would be too intrusive. There's a picture of 23/25 Cardinal Road on Leodis. This was/is, presumably, the view from number 24 - a fine Art Deco chippie! It was taken on 4th February, 1937.To look at the photo you have to click on the little box, above. The site seems to be playing-up still. Pictures would normally appear direct on the post.

I think I will write to the present owners for sure although unsure what they will be able to unearth as the Zoopla site reveals that they have only lived there since 16 feb 07.will feed back to you if anything interesting comes up!

My pleasure. Perhaps you could post some pictures of the bureau? There was one in our family which had a hinged writing surface. As you pulled it down, two supports automatically extended out for the desk part to rest on.

HiIve been doing the family history off and on for a few years. from my mums and dads side Thorntons/Farrellys I can trace their history in Leeds back to early 1800s. Farrellys arrived in Leeds from Ireland about 1840. So before that am struggling to know which direction now is best and how do I go about finding out. My grandfather Farrelly was ilegitimate and born in 1909. His mother Maud Lucy Farrelly was a tailoress. She lived on Fish Street so I can imagine poverty playing a huge factor. Could Secret Leeds help with history of Fish Street??Have you any advice on how to track down pre 1840 the irish bit???Cheers for any help , advice that is offerred
