It was at the south western end of Albion Place, and by the time of the 1847 OS it had been replaced by the Leeds Stock Exchange Building.I wonder if the name of the Tower Cinema at the top of New Briggate was a reference to the Tower your researches mention? Thanks for the info about the Albion Place reservoir, Jim. My historical maps (online, accessed through work) only start in the 1850s so I wouldn't have found it there.I think the Tower Cinema was part of a larger group, so probably not connected, but it's a happy coincidence. It did occur to me that if there were still traces of the reservoir under the Grand Theatre, they could stage a very authentic production of the Phantom of the Opera!

Lydgate is on the 1847 map to the west of Mark Lane, aboout where the Drotmund square doors of the St John's Centre are now. It connects with Woodhouse lane making the site of the gate/tower about the back of the Halifax building.I reckon New Briggate went through the site of the reservoir and the stone yard to the north on the 1847 map.

Does anyone know if drawings or paintings exist showing (at least a reconstruction) Leeds in the 17th century and before. With modern technology would be a great project to reconstruct a virtual Leeds based on maps and accounts say going back in time in 50 year steps. Only wish I had time to do something like this!Noticed in the museum they had a touch screen showing maps of Leeds through the ages - would be great to convert these maps into 3D images of the city. Wonder what the process is for requesting a lottery grant for something like this - and does the museum/civic trust have suggestion schemes.

1770 Map shows Engine House - curious seems to use a channel of the Aire along Swine Gate- the same channel that supplied the Mill further up stream - does anyone know if this channel still exists (underground?)
