Hi all,Just a quick post as I have noticed that I have completely neglected Secret Leeds for a couple of months now!Does anybody else remember a blimp over Leeds (nearly constantly, every day) in the mid to late 1990's? I vaguely remember is either having the Good Year livery or The National Lottery (Eh?!).Hope I'm not imagining this one! Thanks!

Hi,I certainly remember the Goodyear Blimp - it used to fly around over football matches and sporting events as a platform for the TV cameras. I saw it in Manchester for the Euro 96 competition. Can't think why it would have spent much time over Leeds other than for match days.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Thank you very much blackprince! I'm glad to hear that I wasn't imagining it. It remember it always being in the same position. It would be facing towards Leeds-Bradford airport as I used to live close to the flight path.Wonder if we will see anything like this again in the near future?

There was one in Headingley in the 80's at the old garage next to the Skyrack, Alba Tyres? Anyway it came loose and ended up in Norway IIRC.

Apart from the Leeds Utd games, it could often be seen over the city earlier in the day if there was a match in the north-east as it flew up there. There have also been several promotional tethered inflatables shaped like airships above businesses in the city. As well as the one in Headingley already referred to, there was a yellow one in Hunslet / Holbeck that could be seen as you drove down the M621 from Gildersome.

Up until a year or so back there was regularly a tethered advertising airship-like object in the Sheepscar junction area. For the life of me I cannot though recall what business it was advertising!
