The Eastgate "Twins"

Came across this on Leodis,neverrealised the buildings were identical.Undated. View from Eastgate roundabout up Eastgate towards Vicar Lane and the Headrow. The roundabout is occupied by Appleyard's Ltd., a filling station. At the junction with Eastgate the two identical 'book end' buildings are visible, part of Sir Reginald Blomfield's 1930s scheme for improving the city centre. The one on the left is occupied by the Yorkshire Hussar Public House at numbers 44-46 Eastgate. Union Street is on the left side of the Yorkshire Hussar with the old Millgarth Police Station in view at the left edge, and behind it the old Union Street Baths. A new police station was built in 1976 and Union Street Baths closed in 1964. On the right is Circle House on the corner of Lady Lane and Bridge Street. They're wrong about Union Street Baths closing in 1964. Me and a mate nicked off school to go which must have been 1965 at the very earliest.

I reckon Circle House isn't going to survive the next property boom/harewood quarter redevelopment. Its letter box is in the signs of old leodis thread.
