Just watched a program about clog dancing on BBC4 where it referred to Dan Leno. Checked the web and found that he won the "World" clog dancing championship in Leeds in 1880 at the Princess Theatre (originally called the New Theatre) - later called the Hippodrome.Anyone know where this was?Interestingly both Chaplin and Stan Laurel were clog dancers during their music hall timehttp://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Leeds/NewTheatreLeeds.htm

Rare recording of the man herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE3WVKUY7VAI've always been fascinated by what people found funny in the past in particular the Leeds Music Hall scene. From another thread about when Dickens visited Leeds in 1866(Which appears to have been deleted!)Fortunately I kept a record of the sourcehttp://books.google.com/books?id=TnQHAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA420&dq=Leeds+charles+dickens+music+hall&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=falsePage 420Quote"Then the all pervading irrepressible comic man, with the brimless hat and the long-tailed coat, treated us to Slap-bang and Kalbozlum and Um-doodleday, and always when he failed to make an effect, knocked his hat over his eyes, and by that triumphant stroke of humour invariably brought down the house"The Chuckle Brothers are still using this technique today!
