As Christmas approaches it would be as well to remember that the festival is effectively a re-branding of the pagan winter solstice rituals. No doubt Steve Jones knows a lot more detail. I do ,in fact I am talking on that very subject this Friday in Bradford!

Is it public?

Thanks for that, Steve. I'd like to come and hear you (and will if I can). It'd just that I'm already committed to be in Hebden Bridge until an unspecified time, so can't promise. If I do make it, I'll make myself known to you, altho' if the Society's mainly for students I guess I'll be pretty easy to spot

There are many instances of new religions taking over the "premises" and traditions of earlier religions, but i thought that the term "church" was generally accepted to be specific to a building that facilitates worship to the god of the new and old testamants.

Hoping to, cnosni, seeing that I owe you a pint of Midnight Bell! But at this stage I can only say "hoping to" rather than a definite yes, as I'm under quite a lot of family pressure one way and another from Friday onwards. Steve: Sorry, but not surprised you've had to cancel. I'll just have to get you next time
