Presumably, they haven't had the time/funds to check them with dendrochronology tests? Beams were often reused from one building to another, and even recycled from timber ships.     My thoughts exactly, dendro isnt that quick (unless its Time Team of course!!)I find it an odd mix of woodworking to be used in a building, one minute a very well worked apex and then suddenly not bothering and working a piece of wood to any old substandard quality, doesnt make senseAs Si says they reused allsorts of materials when needs be.The older wood looks similar to the pieces used in the walls of Medieaval buildings etcPlenty of examples on this web pagehttp://www.docbrown.info/docspics/yorkscenes/y ... .htmNotice the one for Margaret Clitherows house on the Shambles, especially in the roof part of the wall

I've added some pics of what remains at the site off Kirkgate - now completely cleared.http://snipurl.com/1ji6p9 (Thanks to Phill for the snip url!)Apologies for the quality, they were taken with my phone. As a slight aside, when adding these images to the map on flickr, the default location is given as "Cavalier Hill". I've lived in Leeds all my life and never heard of the name - anyone have any ideas?

As always, you'll need to copy and paste my link due to the unique way in which Secret Leeds works... I've just looked at the 'Leeds Street Atlas' that was published in 1997 or 1998 and there are some very short cul de sacs whose name starts with Cavalier in the Cross Green area of LS9, so at a pinch I guess they could be said to be near(ish) Kirkgate! Maybe their area was once known as Cavalier Hill? I'd probably say it is now Richmond Hill.

Hi Ravey.Try using snip url here to cut your links and post then on S.L. http://snipurl.com/site/indexIt embeds the links properly on here (no need to copy and paste)And yes flickr does seem to use very old names for ares in Leeds. I've noticed that too. The area around the sation/Dragonora hotel is listed as Warehouse Hill and that can be found on old maps of Leeds too.

Cavalier Hill must be a correct name for the area. Aterall there is the Cavalier Inn on Ellerby Road, Richmond Hill. I bet there was some connection with an old battle way back in time.
