Another corker of an item which shows how well acquainted are the YEP with their home city - NOT.    An article shows a picture of Sammy Ledgard's Nelson Hotel which has just reopened as an excellent Indian restaurant - the text informs us that it is one of three recently closed pubs on Town Street, Armley - now whatever gave me the impression that its in Armley Road I wonder ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

A poor attempt to disguise a press release from Bellways Home, masquerading as news tonight. At their development on "Parkway, at Parkway Vale" (you or I may know this better as South Parkway, Seacroft - it's the land they were "given" by the council when all the council houses were pulled down), they are naming several streets after a chap called Pearson who was the first Leeds born soldier to win a VC during the Indian Mutiny - all very worthy I'm sure. However, in pure PR speak, the piece then goes on to state that the development is "just 5 minutes from the city centre".Eh? It's 4 miles from the city centre as the crow flies. I'll bet you can't do that journey in under 30 minutes at the peaks (the 'official' timetabled time for the number 4 is 29 minutes) and it would be physically impossible to do it in 5 minutes unless you had a helicopter....Clearly the journo rehashing the copy doesn't know Leeds.

Yorkshire post and other news papers are not worth the money and a waist of trees they miss lead the people who read them with disinformation very clever how they do this and most people don't even know. They buy papers out of boredom

Hi chameleon. If this is the article on page 18 of today's YEP then it does state plaque (not plague) though with the font used a q can easily be read as a g.It does not seem like 6 years since Danny died. I can still mentally hear him singing at a popular spot of his at the rear entry/exit of Marks & Spencer.

When I posted the message, the on-line edition ( I don't spend money on recycled news) it was quite clearly plague not as upon checking now, correctly plaque. At the very least they've striven to put things right this time so a gentle pat given

I think something I said have before but are Calendar any better? Not to make light of the incident which is now being treated as a murder enquiry but this mornings early bulletin reported that Cookridge Street was “closed both ways” and “motorists should take an alternative route”.Now anybody with even a rudimentary knowledge of Leeds City Centre will know that Cookridge Street has 3 segments as the middle section is a pedestrianised extension to Millennium Square and that the two other sections are one way only (the same way) and pretty much exclusively used for local access only purposes. The top section is part of a one way loop involving Portland Crescent and Gate and the bottom section is used for parking or for the odd motorist who missed Calverley Street as access to either Otley Road or the loop I am old enough to remember it being a through road (upto about 15 years ago) and just about remember it being 2 way (over 20 years ago)
