Thanks Jim, I've just looked at the 1933 Yorkshire Edition on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html (coordinates 428802, 434269) and I'd agree that is the only place that fits. There really is nothing left of the site at all, is there? None of the original road pattern has been retained. I was hoping there was something so I could do a 'before and after' shot, so I feel a little disappointed. With the development on Burley Rd not even the view is preserved! I was hoping there was something on Leodis which could confirm this, but sadly there appear to be no pictures of the roads listed that correspond with anything seen here. Some of the houses cleared in this area looked quite nice, which is something you'd struggle to say about their replacements.

I'm sure this pic was shown inbetter detail a year or so back on S/Leeds and you could actually make out the street names! Wish I could remember em!!!!Ihave a feeling the shot was taken from near Armley Nick.Looking down thru the Gloucesters across the Aire valleyto the Burley area. I feel that the church with a spire in the distance is St Matthias between Burley Rd and Kirkstall rd(St Matthias Street). I think the Gloucesters, because thosefactory buildings could be Marston Excelsior Radiators. The old building is still there but the works stretched uphill with thecanteen at the top of the hill which was Cross GloucesterAve. I used to work for Marston's as an Apprentice till the war ended and got made redundo! That tower like structurecertainly seems like the fire station training tower on Kirkstall Rd.Best I can do Folks!

Just a thought here, didnt they have some tower blocks on the Wythers top Cockshott Lane area, that were knocked down??my thinking is that the bottom towers could be Raynvilles, and the ones further up could be the Wyther flats where the newer houses are now, the spire could be one from Bramley, and the houses could be Kirkstall. ??

I would say it is from Tykeboys view on Bell Vue Road. A very slight view of the Jail castle tower is seen between the rooftops. I have looked with a magnifying glass but can't make out the street sign. The jail tower is circled and arrowed.

I lived in Gloucester Ave and we never had a shop with Turog on it or even a shop!

Also the other pics in the thread look like they're woodhouse/burley/rosebanks. Nice photos.http://www.flickr.com/photos/daveglass/ ... 772049385/
