The maps show a 'highway' drain for surface water, basically a culverted ditch next to the road. It goes down to sainsbrys and joins the surface water culvert headinh to adel beck.

West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council laid a surface water sewer to take the road drainage from King Lane from just above Nursery Lane as far as the stream before you come to The Avenue. It was laid in the open space. This happened around 1977. Around 1978 1979 the concrete kerbs were laid on either side of the road followed by the road resurfacing and footpath works. Around late 1979, early 1980 (I think), King Lane was widened to allow for the right hand turn from King Lane onto Nursery Lane.
