Well I did and I'm not shy to say so.

As far as I remember you paid a deposit on the glass - 50p for a half or £1 for a pint - and if you wanted to keep it at the end of the night you just put it in your pocket and left. Or you returned the glass and had the deposit refunded. I also have the souvenir glass from the 1989 BBF but I can't remember if the festival was held in Leeds during those intervening years.Mrs s 'n p recalls seeing The Who at the Queens Hall, she thinks in 1967 but cannot remember any of the supporting acts. For my part, I remember going to the Queens Hall around 1969 or 70 and seeing a line-up including Chicken Shack, Liverpool Scene and Jon Hiseman's Coliseum. I think there was another biggish name on the bill but I can't remember who.Even the notoriously poor Queens Hall acoustics could not ruin the beautiful voice of Christine Perfect. I also remember Adrian Henri announcing from the stage that any groupies should assemble at the stage door after the performance. We laughed but one of the lads in our group said that he was probably deadly serious!I vividly remember Liverpool Scene bringing the house down with their rendition of "We don't want you Enoch".The next (and last) music event I went to at the Queens Hall was with my younger brother and his mate in 1977 featuring the Jam. Decided to do some research after posting this message rather than before so there are some elements to put right. However, there is also some good news for the Secret Leeds people who are after photographs of events inside the Queens Hall - see below.Firstly, I have to say that I was wrong about Chicken Shack but right about Christine Perfect. It seems that CP and CS went their separate ways after the Bath Music Festival which took place in August 1969. After 'googling' the Queens Hall line-up as stated in my original post I found that the concert took place in March 1970 and featured Christine Perfect during her career as a solo performer. Liverpool Scene and Coliseum (or Colloseum) are also specified but no fourth named band as I suggested. The next point concerns the Who gig that my good lady went along to. Another Google adventure revealed that this took place on 14 October 1966. I also discovered that they were supported by a band called the Mandrakes. Evidence seems to suggest that these guys were from East Yorkshire - have a look at the following website yourself. There are photographs of both the Who and the Mandrakes athttp://mandrakes.e-printphoto.co.ukThe Mandrakes also appeared at the Queens Hall on the following night - 15 October 1966. There is no mention on the site of a headline act. By the 15th, Roger, Pete, John and Keith were back down south on the next leg of their tour. Anybody recognise someone - maybe themselves - on the photographs?

There was certainly one in 1981, it co-incided with a waterways festival on the canal, at Clarence Dock The Beatles did play the Queens Hall with Roy Orbison also on the bill.

In the 1960s, I went to a performance in the Queen's Hall called "Dancing Waters" - it was a large curtain of coloured water fountains which created different patterns of movement set to music. Sounds a bit weird, but it was a lovely effect. Innocent times, eh?!I saw that as well, and yes it was quite a good effect. I have a feeling there was an exhibition of new fangled colour television there at the same time. I don't think I was overly impressed with the colour telly but it was a novelty.

I,m 41 yrs old now and today would have been my dads 60th birthday. Which is the reason I started looking up Q/Hall. The place between 1979 up to its demise where I grew up. My Dad (Richard Johnson) and my Grandad(Harry Johnson) took the the lease on the premise and as a boy of 9 spent all weekends with the biggest play ground you could ever imagine. From playing on the 2nd would war rifle range which was on the roof (not a lot of people no that) with boxes of paper targets to playing on the drum kit which Slade left their for years in the old cinema room on the 3rd floor. The old style lift that ran through the center of the warn down stone stairs which were located behind where all the stages for the concerts were and lead up to the grotty changing rooms . And sliding down the banister of the magnificent spiral starcase at the old entrance on swinegate. Yes you were all correct in saying the acuostics were awful and the floor was sticky, But for all its bad points it would appear that you all have some memories that make you smile.I had a great trip down memory lane this morning so thanks for keeping my small piece of my Dad out there.
