A very old Establishment down the Skulls head yard (Part 1)

I passed the White Cloth hall with the camera the other day and got a shot of the work going on. It's good to see the careful taking down of this once historic building.Meet the on site archeologist, responsible for carefully noting, and numbering each piece so it can be carefully reconstructed into the new development. He's the blue one with four wheels The skull building is only just hanging in there

glad you managed to get down we're popping out often to have a look as they seem to be getting on really quickly clearing everything some interesting bits showing up, all that fallen down rubble in Phils pic has pretty much gone now so if you can spare 5 mins it's worth coming down. you can peep through at the bottom of the alleyway between tribe and kadas if you can't get into the carpark

Am I right in thinking those cracks in the wall (visible above the "archaeologist") weren't there before? If they are caused by the demolition, the skull wall has a very short future.

I've looked back at page 34 of this thread, and in one of Phill's photos (post dated 30/4/08,) the cracks were there then. My mistake.

There is a report on page 21 of the YEP today (September 14) about the demolition of the Cloth Hall. In that it states:-"A stretch of a city centre road in Leeds has closed to allow bulldozers to move in on an historic listed building dating back to 1711. Kirkgate is closed for a week until tomorrow to allow partial demolition work on the 18th century First White Cloth Hall. The road closure will be in place to allow enough time for the building's frontage to be taken down. Then demolition and archaeological recording works will continue at the back of the building and the road can be re-opened...An archaeologist will be on hand to record anything uncovered by the work".I think the photos taken by Phill were taken just in time.

Kirkgate was very much closed on Sunday the 12th (the day the pics were taken) Less than a quarter of the White Cloth hall was down as you can see.I had to walk down to the Parish church to catch the diverted bus from the temporary bus stop down there.

My bus has been diverted all last week and this so far because of the demolition.I reckon they will just clear the site,skulls building included and then say there isn't enough to reconstruct it.

I'm actually thinking the same as you Steve.Perhaps we need to do something before it's too late?
