Used to only hear it at night when i had bedroom window open ( its definately outside )but have started to hear it through the day .Its not particulary loud about the same as normal conversation but its bugging me . I live in Colton Leeds 15 and been hearing it for about 4 months and yes the wifes heared it too and its not when drunk either .Has anybody any ideas .??????

I don't know if it's related but I used to hear a weird, constant humming noise at night where I grew up in Burmantofts. It seems to be an unexplained but known phenomenon. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 24317.html

Mywife had simlar problems in the 70's when we lied briefly(thank God) in Little London..It would seem that different people hear noises atdifferent pitches/levels,what bothered her didn't bother me and vce versa.Onesource we thought was electricity sub stations located to residential property and wind direction at quiet times.

Whatever it is it's not confined to Leeds. It's the first thing I hear every morning as I wake up in my bed in Kent. For a long time I was convinced it was caused by faulty telephone wiring near my bed, but that made no sense because I only ever heard it in the quiet of the early morning, never at night; and sure enough it was still there when I had all the wiring replaced. Then I started noticing it at quiet moments at other times and in other places too, so I've come to the conclusion that the cause is either inside my own head or is something that has become ubiquitous only in recent times - e.g. mobile phone cell networks; digital TV; DAB; wifi etc?

bert/Tosh your not on your own i hear this same noise in the LS9 area. Its definitly outside and it seems to stop and start intermittently.I can also some nights hear some heavy construction going on through the night somewhere. It sounds like scraping of a road surface somewhere? Also just to add my hearing is perfect. This noise is definitly outside of the house because i have gone to the window and opened it and the noise gets louder?
