Perhaps Sunday the 15th but I will confirm nearer the time. Please don't go up there without me as the farmer will get pretty worried if people start walking over the crops. It's not a problem if I am there to guide across my part of land.Thanks. Whatever happened to this trip Motley?

Just been digging about some old photos that I have and noticed one of an aerial view of Allerton High School.I noticed Phil mentions something about an air raid shelter in the corner of Nursery Lane and King lane that appears as an earthwork on google maps. The photo i have is too large to go on here (not sure how to scale down) but clearls shows structures that were barracks in the same corner, but alas, it is too unclear to see the air raid shelter. It is from about the late 30s early 40's, just after the school was completed. Not sure whether it is anything to do with the school or what really, but is quite interesting. As a former pupil I hadn't realised anything was there other than trees!!

(just after the cow tunnel under the ring road) there are lots of stones about there and all sorts, you can see by my prev. pics that there were cottages also. A guy on Leodis comments he lived there until 1961 untill they were demolished. Any ideas waht the hole was for? It seems not to go anywhere and doesnt seem to have been bricked up at all at the bottom (although it is really wet!)

Yeah the arch passed the cows tunnel. It's only an old cellar, Not very big & doesn't go anywhere! I don't think i have those pics anymore, I'm having a big clear out & been rather ruthless some get binned. Rik has posted a pic of it somewhere on here & added some info about the place although finding it again is the tricky bit!!

I guess the cellar or whatever could have been used for a myriad of things. Possibly an ice-house, though it is an odd shape as the bottom section would have been difficult to access.I've heard of "flax pits" used in the preocessing of flax, where I think it is left to stand in water for a long time. Just guessing here.

Just guessing here. Could be Rikj, but I would have thought it a bit deep for that maybe. I always thought (probably wrongly!) that the big stone structure next to the cellar was part of one of the pits for the flax. Its a wierd site. Really hard to picture how it once was. Whhen you were there did you notice the stone building that is still there near the bridge. There is a tree there that is almost growing into it! Found the attached on Leodis. I wonder if the little stone srtucture is the same one?? (leodis ref http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL )
