Great pictures of the renovation, bet Phil will love the old Saloon sign
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

It's a shame though to see all that history and nostalgia just ripped out and thrown into a skip. Part of the pleasure of going there was to pretend to go back in time and just imagine all the people that had been there before. Especially the lovely old unspoilt bar with all the photos on the wall.It won't be the same.

I have to say that these days when restoration is done it is usually done very well.

The Grand is a prime example, it looks a hundred times better than it did. I don't beleive you can just let these things rot and become increasingly impractical to use for the sake of 100% authenticity. The bar was superb though, I hope they can keep the feel of it somehow.

One thing is absolutely certain and we are to be thankful for it - the renovation could not possibly be in better hands than those of Mr. Peter Sandeman, a perfect gentleman who is totally dedicated to "The Varieties" as anyone who has been on the walkabout tours will agree.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
