I can't believe they never did anything on the Elland road site. I seem to recall a massive hotel, music arena, and leasure complex scheme down there. I agree the site of the new arena is probably the worst you could choose. It's still situated in the crowded town, but it's up hill, and as far away from both the train, and bus stations as you can get it.As for the Elland road site? It's just off the M621, town needn't be affected by traffic at all. The rail line runs within feet of the place for it's own station. That station could have been used for match days, and the local community too. I'm sure that would have been a scheme to be proud of, the one were getting? It's about standard for Leeds i would say. Basic is a diplomatic word!

I think the idea of building it near the city was to encourage people to spend their money in the shops in the city centre on their way to the venue.

Plausible idea Stutterdog.I just don't see many gigs going off during the day when the shops are open.

I agree with Phil_dvsn - an Elland Road site would be ideal as far as the transport is concerned - could kill 2 birds with one stone

You need only look at the aerial image to see the benefits of the Elland road site. Where else in Leeds do you get all that available land. With a major link road, and rail line so close?Still it's all too late now lol

I see why building it at Elland Road would have been good, but I really like that its by the Merrion.Thinking about when I've gone to the MEN, I've gone early most times meaning I've had time to wander round Manchester and spend money in shops and/or restaraunts in the city centre before going to the arena. I'm always on the train when I go and I use Piccadilly, which is the opposite side of Manchester and I walk across the city centre (I know I could go to Victoria, but the train takes ages and its quicker walking across town and getting the non commuter train). Leeds is a smaller city centre and its not like the bus and train stations are that far away.I agree with the car stuff though. It seems like its going to be a nightmare if travelling by car. It can't be any worse than Sheffield though. Last time I was there in a car it took two hours to get from the arena car park to the M1. We were not impressed and I wouldn't go back there again coz compared to the MEN its awful.Sorry for if I don't make sense. I'm very sleepy and probably shouldn't be near a keyboard!

No that's a perfectly good argument for the pros of the arena where it is going to be Greeno. It makes perfect sense. There's always pros and cons to everything. Sadly it can prove costly if the cons outweigh the pros.Only time will tell with this one, but at Leeds is getting an arena at long last. I know csnosi is well chuffed
