The Ring Road isn't a complete ring, and in places it's only single track - like between York Road and Moortown. But it's a damned sight better than the apology for a ring road Bradford have. Of the old type ring roads, the only one I've seen that appears to be a complete circle is Norwich.

Isn't Huddersfield's complete? Although I guess it's really an inner ring road, cutting off the town centre from the rest of the world.

The Leeds Inner Ring Road was alledgedly completed with phase 7 which was predominantly the John Smeaton viaduct. The rationale behind phase 7 was to complete a circle/loop by linking LIRR6 at South Accommodation Road to the M621 West/South bound at Hunslet Moor and of course vice versa. My pet hobby horse on this is that after ignoring the money spent on the viaduct the majority of the rest was spent on linking Hunslet Distributor to the M621 East/South bound by building a new on-slip less than half a mile short of the existing on-slip at Tunstall Road via Moor Road. This had nothing to do with completing the loop! Meanwhile a little money was spent on realigning the existing off slip from the M621 onto the Hunslet Distributor, that is part of the loop, and no money at all was spent on the chronically badly designed junction 4 onslip from Hunlset Distributor onto the West Bound M621. The acceleration/merge lane for this onslip doubling as the offslip for Junction 3 onto Dewsbury Road and cause of no end of chaos/congestion especially in the morning rush hour. /rant

If you want to look at a really scary set of plans follow this link to Ringways on CBRD.http://www.cbrd.co.uk/histories/ringways/"This section of CBRD explores the London Ringways - a proposal to drive a dense network of motorways through and around the capital. It represents the biggest research project ever undertaken into the history of UK roads, already the result of several years' work, and it's still ongoing."The plans were really quite a monster and worth a look.Iain

IainNot just Rothwell UDC, but pre 1974 the bit between Selby Road and Swillington Bridge was part of TADCASTER UDC. Could never understand why Swillington was in Tadcaster UDC, when we had to go through Garforth (UDC) to get there!Fleetline

The stretch from Dawson's Corner to river at Rodley (ie to the west of Farsley) was within the Pudsey borough boundary of the day. And the bit from the river, up to Horsforth, was in the Aireborough UDC.
