Slightly off topic for Leeds I admit, but it caused me great amusement at Huddersfield station yesterday teatime. A notice in the window of the buffet gives the (very limited) opening hours and declares that HOT SNACKS WILL BE SEVERED FROM 0800 to 1400 - presumably customers will be expected to chop the food up themselves after 2.00pm !!
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The incident is reported on page 14 of today's YEP in which it also refers to the "Calder and Aire Canal at Woodlesford". I wonder if the original reporting source got it wrong but nobody knew any different at the YEP and Calendar? Ah, quite possibly - however both should have known better.

There is an article in tonights YEP about a forthcoming exhibition about Louis Le Prince, who filmed the first moving pictures in Leeds.Apparently the exhibition will feature a replica of his "video camera".I kid you not...

Tonights edition 'Consumer Watch'was just a blatant advert for a no win no fee style of legal 'advice'How to claim if you have taken out a loan which included Personal Protection Insurance(PPI) together with the contact name and phone number.PPI was a hugely profitable add on for the banks and they are now being found out !All you have to do if you think youhave a claim is to download from the WHICH? website a template letter, edit it to suit your circumstances and POST IT !What the article did not mention is that the cardinal sin of PPI is the payment of the insurance premiun AND interest is paid up front as a lump sum and ADDED to your loan/interest.I battled for several months to win my wife almost TWO GRAND, oneletter to my own bank resulted in another 2 Grand and yet another letter on behalf of a friend got nearly three and a half grand. What you get is the PPI fee, interest on that fee plus simple interest at 8%.The banks are caving in after huge fines by the FSA.2 first class stamps and a little time was worth over £5000.Good luck to you if you have a claim.

I have no intention of defending Mary Bale infamousfor dumping the cat in a wheely bin but so called journalistsneed to stick to reporting facts and not referring to Mary Bale inprint as 'that evil cow'and 'the old witch'.Debbie Leigh's column plunges the depths of so called journalism.Imagine ITN/Sky?bbc news using such language in their news bulletins,it just wouldn't happen and they would not allow a third party interview containing such remarks to be broadcast. It would appear that there is no form of scutiny before publication, has it gone the way of the proof reader ?.
