IIRC the headrow buildings went up about the same time as the flats, the bottom of the Headrow is undeveloped on the QH construction photo above. There appears to have been two Yorkshire Hussars existing at the same time, Cardi, even though it's not a common pub name. PS Why two? Dunno. Perhaps it was a recruiting area?PPS I think our posts keep crossing!

Union Street (which still exists) runs parallel with the former Nelson Street (now Eastgate.) The premises between were back-to-backs except the Yorkshire Hussar, which was a through building - hence the double addresses.PS Nelson Road is a mistake. It was Nelson Street.

The pub is opposite the Cross Union Street junction (now the car park behind the market.) A = Yorkshire HussarB = New Inn variously addrssed as Milgarth Street and Union Street.

There will have been demolition since the maps but there seems to be no same road names at all currently that I'm aware of in the area. To add to my confusion though St Peter's is (I think) a name for the Leeds Parish Church which is very near to what were the Quarry Hill flats. I'm confused, but that's easily done! I was born in Stainburn Court, Quarry Hill, before the Flats were built. All the area you can see on the old maps was demolished in the 1930s. At the time I was born (1933) the area was a notorious slum; reckoned to be one of the worst in Europe! All the families from Quarry Hill were moved to the Council estates at Gipton, Torre, Mddleton, and Holbeck/Beeston. My family were moved to Glenthorpe Crescent, York Road. After living in the dreadful old house, my mother thought she had been sent to paradise! A bathroom? An indoor lavatory? A garden?
