School Dinners -- Likes/Dislikes

.....Come to think of it we were always hungry i wont go into the liveing in a cardboard box joke but we were not far of In fact has a treat my mum would take us to Leeds City Station to watch people going on holiday.lol My mum used to take me to Leeds Central to watch trains and stamp my name out on an aluminium strip from a machine for a treat . Also they had a nativity scene set up in Central station every year. Lewis's windows decorated for Xmas were also a treat!

I'm sure we still got milk even at High School (at least for a while). Great excitement as a kid waiting in the very long queues at Leeds City Station to catch the day excursion by train to such as Scarborough.

I think they needed a very hard pull to impress each letter on the strip. And yes I recall the nativity scenes. Lewis's was always the place for Santa and Christmas scenes and toys.

Apologies for going off-topic. I think we have had a nostalgia moment there. The worst thing for me about school dinners was the very thick skin on blancmange. I was put off blancmange for life and have never had it since school.

I sat down at dinner table one day and there was a packet of Corn.I said "Sir What's this?" he said Chicken Dinner.I said Sir, I don't like cheese with holes He said, Well just eat the cheese and leave the holes on the side of your plate !Isn't it strange how Semolina sounds a bit like Salmonella.

WRCC policy (I was brought up in Morley) may have been different to Leeds City. We used to have our capsule, and then go to bed in camp type beds, this was the first year. I had school milk from starting at four to leaving for Pudsey Tech at 14. They were 1/3 pint bottles and it was Co-op milk.

I was late home from school one day(over 50 years ago)me mam said Where have you been?I said I had to stay behind for half an hour.What for? me mam said.To finish chewing me meat from dinner.
