I'd have thought that Sussex was pretty good for real ale. It's next door to Kent and Shepherd Neame's beers are pretty good. Looking at thishttp://www.brightoncamra.org.uk/Breweries.htmlI reckon you'll be ok on the Real Ale front.

I went AWOL misself on Thursday Friday and Saturday. Went to Bath and then followed the line of the Somerset and Dorset Railway towards Bournmouth - and then visited our daughter at Amesbury. I had some lovely beers. Tanglefoot, Wadsworths, Courage, very nice indeed. Not cheap mind.

Lovely bit of country down there too. Don't mention thatto any ex-squaddie who trained on Salisbury plain! We haven't been down for a couple of years now. It's a day's travelby coach.Change at Victoria then a 2 hour's wait for the connection to Amesbury. No fun at our age! Then, coming home, there's onlyone bus a day back to London. Anyway Sister and husbandcome up to us,now. They are a lot younger!

When we walk their dog, after five minutes walk we can see Stonehenge. We ususally drive, but I've looked for direct alternatives by public transport and there don't seem to be any. Five years ago, when I worked in Wigan I travelled by train from there, but it was change at Bristol, and the Virgin train was absolutely heaving till it got to Birmingham.
