After all we do have a large gap behind Holy Trinity on Boar Lane that's on hold, and this Harewood Quarter development that's not progressing.Several years time maybe, but not soon. Otherwise we're not seeing any of these wonderful skyscrapers that we were supposed to have. The former mentioned here is the Trinity development being referred to in the article isn't it, as anthonydna says. After canvassing opinion the Council decided a while agao that 'quarter' is now an inappropriate term and not liked and are (supposedly) no longer using it to describe an area.

Agreed even with its recent refurb the Boar Lane interchange isn't brilliant (sunk cost accounting?). However with access to lower Basinghall street necessary for delivery's to the Leeds Plaza (Bond Street Centre) and access to Mill Hill Chapel and other buildings the options for change in traffic management will be pretty limited. There certainly won't be room for a Bus Stop Island a la Infirmary Street especially with the need for southern egress still requiring the Mill Hill Dog leg. They would also need to sort once and for all the taxi issue on New Station street which still, albeit rarely, raises its ugly head.Does one of your links eventually lead to the proposed traffic management/bus stop proposals? The Leeds one just leads to a page of fairly non descriptive links. Didnt se any,but as its only the eastern half oTrinity which is starting (supposedly) and that the bus stops are on the western half of the development then perhaps these will appear when (and if) the detailed submissions for the west half appear. It would certainly be very tight to put something anyway near like what is in Infirmary Street, you would effectively be looking at having to access the Park Plaza service road from City Square, whereas now its done so from Boar Lane in the direction of City Square.Though this would mean having to allow cars to enter City Square from Park Lane and/or Infirmary Street, which at the moment is prohibited.Whats interesting is that the submissions are from June this year and that the schemes initial target of signed up tennants, having been met, was increased to a higher threshold which apparently has now also been met.Id probably think that there will be a large number of relocations from existing stores.

I doubt access to/from city square for the Plaza is likely. There are walkways to the north and south of Mill Hill Chapel but without impinging on the Chapels concourse these are not wide enough for roads let alone accompanying footpaths. The sharp right turn into the Mill Hill dog leg is already difficult enough for anything bigger than a mid size family car without adding a bus island chicane. I could only realistically see upper Basinghall street been reversed in direction and made a through road (across Bond street?). This of course would see the end of the ridiculous detour of Albion street and back up Upper Basinghall street to do the 50 yards to Park Row (mostly ignored)

The independents just won't have the capital/equity to even invest in opening. Hi tyke bhoy We had independents in the Corn Exchange and look what happend to them i think all the council want in Leeds are the big boys. What happend to a nation of small shop keepers now we cater for the middle and upper classes in Leeds, but of course they all live in the city centre. The days of the working classes having a days shopping in Leeds City Centre are long gone.Well thats what i think i have lived in Leeds all my sixty eight years and this is how i see things but as they say time moves on and i just grind to a halt L.O.L
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.
