ATKINSON GRIMSHAW - what an absolute star!Was a favourite(artist)of my Aunt's,and he just clicked with me.Never seen an original though.

Take a look in the Leeds Art gallery - think they have his "Boar Lane" painting. I think his "Autumn" paintings (see the above link) are mesmerising!

"An Old Alley in Leeds" by Arthur Blackburn (1853-1925). Looks more like the Algarve!

"A Lady Sweeping In Altofts Street, Leeds." I think this is a superb painting.Any thread about Leeds Paintings would be incomplete without a mention of Stuart Walton.

It is a painting, but I know what you mean!Although obviously worked from a photo, I love the way Walton has stripped it down to the essentials, enhancing the atmosphere of the scene. If you click on the image to enlarge it, the brush-strokes on the canvas can be seen.Stuart Walton is perhaps better known for his pencil drawings of Leeds' terraced hosing. I'll see if I can find one on Google.
