There are two ghosts maybe more here one the white lady and the blue lady who I forget how she snuffed it now, who haunts the Blue Room.I found this in the webs :Temple Newsam is reported to be the most haunted house in Yorkshire, with the most famous ghost being Mary Ingram, commonly known as "the Blue lady", who in her life became deranged after an attack by highwaymen. Ghosts linked with the more famous residents of Temple Newsam include "the White lady": this is said to be the ghost of a Lady Jane Dudley née Grey. She was executed by Mary I Well done yes, memory suitably jogged here!!

As a child in the early to mid 1950's I recall there was a stone structure (a bit like a well) that you could get into. It had water in and, at the right time of year, always had lots of frogs. I can't recall exactly where it was but is was fairly close to the House on the left if you faced the main entrance. I've not been since I was a child so I've no idea if it is still there or not. If not I wonder if it rings any bells with anyone?

Hi biggee99. Thanks for that. It's funny what things we recall from when we were kids. In my case it's frogs in the 'well' thing, conkers on trees near Templenewsam Pit and getting windfall apples (with permission) at a farm or garden near Templenewsam greenhouses close to Colton.

Love thinking back when we were kids, do you think that it was simple life then, no worries.

Hi biggee99. It was a simpler life for us kids when I was one in the late 1940's to mid 1950's. We could do things that kids would not be allowed to do now. Not nasty things but some, such as chumping, would definitely be a no-no now! Talking of chumping I remember we found what looked like a bomb casing (hopefully not live!) in a garden that backed onto East End Park not far from Neville Hill. We played with it for a bit then left it. I wonder if it is still there under soil now?

Thanks biggee99. I think the site will be the first image you had as I don't recall it being as elaborate a structure as in your second image.I must go back to Templenewsam House grounds some day as I've probably not been in that part since the mid to late 1950's. I wonder if there is still a lake in the wood on either side of the track to Bullerthorpe Lane (assumimg there still is a track and the road). And a band stand like thing on the wood edge that looked towards the House. And the extensive greenhouses and flower beds.

Yes, they are still there the two ponds not far from the ponds i found a 1760 Lancing ice house, LCC said it was destroyed by the mine works but still there as good as the day it was built. They are a lot of things up there hidden and forgot about. You can see the ponds on google have a flick around its good fun.
