I'll see you there Si. Give me a clue as to which direction to head from the bus station. It's many years since I was last in Otley, and I've no idea where the pub is, but have a working knowledge of the town layout and orientation.
Just in case Google maps is wrong, leave the bus station in the direction of the Chevin (the way the bus came in), turn left at The Rose and Crown, and The Junction is on the corner at the next left, before the bicycle shop. See you there. I'll have a Yorkshire rose pin-badge in me lapel!
Here's the YEP picture of Jim's Mystery Tower, on the left. Now we know what it looks like closer up, does anyone have any theories as to what it is?Looks like some sort of pumping station to me.Many thanks to Jim for a very pleasant couple of hours in the Junction, Otley today. Hope you got home OK, and thanks for the pint, Jim! SL certainly gives one a lot to talk about!

Hi Si, a real pleasure to meet you this afternoon. My thanks for putting the picture up. Nicely sh..... sorry, posted. ( I must get away from that wall.......!). It stands magnification very well. Hopefully someone will come up with something nobody else has suggested so far.
Having skipped through most of the chat I was just wondering if the tower could have been a staith of some sort, due to its close proximity to water. Or as said, a pumping station to perhaps supply the water towers at the station with water for when the engines get thirsty!?
Hi big_rob2004, both your suggestions have been proposed and discussed earlier and, I'm afraid, deemed unlikely. If you'd like to plough through page three ( oo-er! ) of this thread you'll find chapter and verse.
