Jools - was the "Tower" fish shop the one on the left going down the narrow part of Merrion Street ?? - I think it was, and if so I seem to remember it had the rather odd name of "The Tower fish and brisket bar." It was a takeaway and also had a very small cafe with waitresses. It was very reasonably priced, clean, quick and served delicious "land and sea."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

It sounds like it could be the same chippy, I know Mum said you had to work your socks off there, as a treat you could have a fish supper to take home with you, suppose it saved chucking them out if they weren't sold, nowadays they just get left in the heated grill part to be sold the next day going by the ones I saw in the chippy window at Cross Gates a few years ago while making a pilgrimage to pick up a bargain or two in the Arndale Centre, it was a Monday morning so they must have been there over the weekend (probably adds a bit of flavour).Jools
