[quotenick="stutterdogTo Blakey I dont think we had another open topper apart from the treelopper? I think 5047 is now used for that purpose. Definitely two open toppers delivered at the same time - 5146 and 5147 stutterdog. I don't know how to put a picture on here nowadays (could at one time) - but my picture of 5146 in open top form, waiting to leave Park Row on the Tour, is on the WYPTE PHOTOS website.    I can't think who the lady wife of the inspector is at all.

I vaguely remember going on 'city'tours, not the town centre but the whole of Leeds in sections.I have mentioned in previous threads that in a period like the fifties when I grew up you didn't roam far from home. The tours ran on Bank Holiday Mondays. There was a choice of about 4 or 5 routes, taking in the old favourites like some already mentioned. For someone living in a back to back street with not a blade of grassin sight the spacious estates of newish semis with wide roadways and NO outside bogs was a revalation.Leeds is a very big place, lotsof it is unknown to me,bring back the city wide tours - not city centre tours.

I honestly did not know we had 2 opentoppers on the fleet. Were they both at Bramley?

Nay my friend, no need at all to apologise - I have as many memory lapses as anybody else - more each day in fact as the years speed up I think they were both at Bramley, along with most, if not all, of the Leeds Olympians, but may be wrong.

I can remember traveling on the open top bus, but only with the roof firmly in place when it ran in regular service on the 16 route. It had different seats upstairs to a normal Olympian (waterproof?) and it didn't have the grab rails between the seat backs and the roof that the other examples had.As for the new open top tour bus? It's just Yorkshire Forward wasting cash - much like the proposed idea to bring back the water bus (boat service) between the Armouries and Neville Street on the river. A business couldn't make that pay last year, probably due to the fact it could be walked quicker, but it seems public money can be thrown at anything trivial nowadays.
