Some more old tram lines have been uncovered across the City. The first one is on the Corner of Woodhouse lane, and Cookridge street outside the old library. From what i can make out the last trams to run down here were on the number 1 route to Lawnswood. The last day of running was the 3rd March 1956??? Any ideas if that's correct guys?

13th September 1951 comparison shot. View of Woodhouse Lane showing Chamberlain tram no. 44, destination Belle Isle. The properties in the background, including Walker's Ltd., butchers, at no. 79 towards the right, are on Raglan Road, which branches off from Woodhouse Lane at this point.

The next tram lines to be exposed are the best i've seen to date. This is the view looking down Chapletown road towards the City.

What superb photos Phill - just reaching fot the Kleenex - and that date for Woodhouse Lane trams is correct. As far as Chapeltown goes, the service was withdrawn on 28th September 1957.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Thanks for the confirmation, and the Chap road closing date as well. It saves me looking it up. Cheers Blakey

Great pictures and research as ever Phill. In case it's not been mentioned before, ( as a newcomer I've not read everything! ) the supreme reference work on Leeds trams and buses is :-"Leeds Transport" by Jim Soper, in four ( and one more to come! ) hefty volumes, published by Leeds Transport Historical Society.

Just resurrecting this fascinating thread to add something to Phill's collection. My powers of observation are clearly improving, as I've walked past this for 40 years and finally noticed it this afternoon! It's on Cardigan Road, opposite the junction with Victoria Road. I didn't put my life in danger taking this photo, as it's on the pavement! It's at a funny angle because it's close to a wall and difficult to photograph.
