The Stirk Bridge Inn isn't something most visitors to Sowerby Bridge would directly pass. Come on now, fess up, who told you about it?I would think any campaign would probably fail, now that I know who the applicant is and, his relationship with Calderdale Council planning department. The application was made in December I believe to turn it into a single dwelling with no exterior alterations. The Stirk Bridge Inn is quite historic, being one of, if not the oldest pub in the town. If anyone can get planning permission for a change of use on a 17th century Pack Horse Inn, then I would say, the owners Punch Taverns, hired just the right man for the job. If you need planning permission in Calderdale for the unthinkable, then he will get you that permission, one way or another! I'm not sure exactly when it closed, the local rags website just said it was recent in early Feb. I noticed the shutters had gone up while I was doing a bit more work on my Rishworth Branch Line project last month.

I actually did just spot it by accident- was having a look around the aquatics centre nearby. morleyhall wrote: I would think any campaign would probably fail, now that I know who the applicant is and, his relationship with Calderdale Council planning department. Such a nice building and location, pity it's not going to be a pub any more. Kind of ironic that the old car parked out front of it is still going when the pub's not!
