No Dogduke. I was merely puzzled as to why a 100 m.ph hour Deltic should take 1 hr 21 mins to travel only 21 miles between Huddersfield and Manchester, it's only stopping at Stalybridge. Saturdays and Sundays are the quiestet time on the railways, especially at 6 a.m (that's why they do all the engineering work on a weekend) As can be seen the amount of engineering work going on over the Spring bank weekend herehttp://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/earl ... 8.htmlBank holiday traffic is even further reduced, simply because there is no one at work e.t.c.

Oh mate.. I was just having a laugh at the train timings taking 1hr 12 minutes. Where the hell is it going to in all that time? No amount of speed restrictions, track possesion, or amount of traffic on the line can possibly make that short 21 mile journey take so long.

Didn't set out to make it heavy but on the railwaysof today there are few places to hide a train. So it was merely to demonstate that it is difficult to get an additional train of any sort thro such a distance.Marsden is the last point of regulation on the old eastern region.Victoria is a shadow of it's former self so it would need regulating to Vic for a path to Wigan between the 0706 and 0720 servces from Vic.Sometime in the 80's I think,Metro and BR decided to run a near full service oflocal trains in West Yorks,it was deemed cheaper to do this than reissue crew/dmu loco workings for bank holidays.having been thro all this I hope the trip is a great success.

I knew you guys would like it I haven't looked at the timings involved, but perhaps it is arrving at Victoria and being held there for some time, to allow people to join the train?I may well go down to Hudds station to see it go off.....

When there's engineering work in the Stanedge Tunnel, TransPennine trains are reversed from Huddersfield to Mirfield and sent along the route via Hebden Bridge to Victoria, which takes a bit more than an hour. There's also a Leeds-Manchester Victoria service which goes via Hebden Bridge and Bolton and takes about two hours, which might make sense for a Deltic, rather than having to let the Trans-Pennine trains past.

It better be on two engines, as the usual load they put on these trips would slow it to a crawl along either route.Thought they would have gone over Copy Pit and avoided Manchester though. No doubt Victoria will be a photo halt, at least you don't have to keep filling a Deltic up with water.
I like work. I can watch it for hours.
