I remember as a child asking my Grandad if we had ever had a depression in Leeds, this was after seeing a programme about the Jarrow Marchers who passed through the city on their way south. "No, Leeds has its fingers in too many pies", was his reply.

Its a great site. From my own background though, Thomas Smiths of Rodley are missing, as are J I Case who built crawler tractors at Grangefield Road Stanningley from the fifties into the eighties.

BBC morning new's Bill Turnbull was doing a report yesterday morning from Leeds market and speaking to people about the lack of manual jobs in the area now all the industry has gone.He said Leeds was once known as "The city of a thousand trades" Not heard that one myself but can well believe it
