I'll try again. Readers may think I've spelt it wrong--not so, the building so identified on the 1847 OS map (available as Godfrey Edition Leeds Sheet 15) was, as Barrie Pepper's book "Old Inns and Pubs of Leeds" tells us, named after Henry Scarborough who ran it as a hotel with a public bar from 1823, and it was previously known as the King's Arms. By carefully scaling and measuring the building, it's relationship to the surrounding buildings and, in particular the width of Bishopgate Street to it's west, and comparing the 1847 and 1906 OS maps I conclude 1) That it was demolished for road widening at around the turn of the C19th. 2) That a new establishment called "The Scarborough Hotel" was built as its successor, but on the site of the two small buildings adjoining the original to its south-east and the access road to the south east of them. This operation allowed Bishopgate Street to be widened from approximately 35' to about 65'. I realise that some may find this view contentious, so leave the subject for the time_being to give them the opportunity to make their views known.

The map showing the “Scarborough’s Hotel” is from the 1847 [Godfrey] OS map and it doesn’t show the western side of Bishopsgate Street. From the same series of maps [but the date given is 1847 – 1863] the map shows the Queens Hotel with just a hint of the street –Bishopsgate Street? – to the east of it. I know that the Queens on the 1847-63 map obviously isn’t the present building and I’m guessing that New Station Street was built with the “new” Queens Hotel [sometime before 1908?], but, was the old Queens at the junction of Bishopsgate Street and City Square or was there something in-between? I don’t want to stitch the maps together and find that I’ve missed a whole load of something out.Could somebody post the Leodis link to the pic that Cardiarms posted on page 10 of the “Lost World” thread, my hang-over prevents me trawling Leodis.

Looks like by the 1841 census Henry has "departed this life"http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx ... 929412Also at the time the pub looks as if it is called "The Peales?? Hotel"It would appear that Henry himself wouldnt have been a local lad,a quick check of the Scarborough inhabitants in the hotel point to him being born Boston Lincs in about 1793,son of a Hanson Scarborough and Susannah Brotherton, who would appear to be the Hanson aged 75 and Susannah aged 77 on the 1841 census page, these are the baptisms at Boston for Henry and siblings 1. JOHN SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 21 MAR 1799 Boston, Lincoln, England 2. SUSANNA SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 04 MAR 1790 Boston, Lincoln, England 3. FREDERICK SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 18 JUL 1800 Boston, Lincoln, England 4. HENRY SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 15 NOV 1793 Boston, Lincoln, England 5. EDWARD SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 03 DEC 1801 Boston, Lincoln, England 6. HANSON SCARBOROUGH - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 06 APR 1789 Boston, Lincoln, England

Liits, the 1847-1863 Leeds Stations map should stitch directly the relevant section of the without conflicting info in the area in which we are interested. Any chance of the appropriate bit of the 1906 South Leeds map as well?.(Map descriptions taken from Godfrey Edition reprints Leeds Sheets 14 and 15, Yorkshire Edition 218.06.)
