They got abolished (along with the GLC and all the other mets created by Ted Heath - there's an example of Tory waste) by the Great She Elephant for standing up to her.

Thats the trouible,Sheffield and its Steel and coal jobs.All they do is bang on about it.We lost just as many jobs in the clothing industry from around the 1950's onwards.Luckily for Leeds we had other mass employers,a more diverse industrial and manufacturing base.The trouble is is that Sheffield,for all the money thrown at it,is still in a mess employment wise.None of the schemes have produced significant jobs.Theyve all been sporting establishments etc.The trouble is is that South Yorks has a reputation for going on strike if there is only sliced pineapples available in the canteen instead of diced pineapples.Major employers are notgoing to wish to locate thenselves in a region renowned for downing tools.

The Transport Minister has seemingly given aan undertaking that funding will be ringfenced against spending cuts - if a Labour government is returned. Almost a little bit of bating there perhaps - but does give an opportunity to help decide the transport fate - one way or the other according to one's feelings for the scheme

As usual the tax payers of west leeds get cheated into paying for something that has little or no impact on their lives but serves all the residents of east leeds ie supertram, trolley busses what next.Have LCC ever even considered asking the people who fund them and whom they are supposed to be serving what they would actually prefer to have instead of foisting their will without consultation ? Time to kick back with the election coming up !

Yes they have, variously over the years, including a fairly recent New Generation Transport survey which attracted, as I recall, just over 200 'concerned' respondents from the residents of Leeds.

Maybe they need to be slightly more overt, I cant recall being asked or being given the opportunity to pass an opinion on where my money is being spent (wasted). They always manage to contact everybody at this time of year for their remittance.

There was a caravan display unit outside the rt Gallery for everyone to visit - assumed you could find a bus to get you there an online form as I recall agin, if you new about it and I think a short questionaire in a junk-mail publication. But yes, your point abover is more than quite valid and illustrates the failure in being public facing on matters.

There was a road show outside the library regarding all aspects of Leedds transport,including introducing c charges for cars.It did go around Leeds and there were more than 200 replies .As for East Leeds well i cant see where youa are coming from as the city loop and East Leeds route have not got the funding,at the moment they are definitely not going to happen whereas the North and South ones will (Ha Ha Ha,yeah right).As i said i dont think this scheme is as much a rapid transit system for the ciizens of Leeds per say,rather its a way of reducing the amount of cars coming into Leeds from elsewhere.As for West Leeds there is the A65 quality bus corridor (notice the "Bus") which will save about 4 to 6 minutes,oh you lucky lothttp://www.leeds.gov.uk/Transport_and_streets/ ... ridor.aspx
