Oh absolutely, I'm feeling pretty inspired at the minute to do something railway related, nostlgia, steam, dark night, ghost engine stuff, the trouble is trying to recreate that great era in a modern day world that in all honesty is pretty cr*p!!We have the preserved railways today of course, but somehow there not the same, the smoke, diesel, and oil smell seems to have been replaced by fresh paint and polish! I've found some video footage of a Deltic flying through Doncaster, this time it's taken from the platformhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XzMyHG3PSoThe Deltics may have been the fastest, and most powerful engines on B.R.But this next clip just shows how wet rails, and Miles Platting bank leaving Manchester Victoria can tame the beast.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01FkLTB_mb055022 struggles to get a grip on the wet rails.Manchester Victoria, and the trackwork, has been much rationalised since my night time cab ride leaving there when we stormed that bank in 40177.

Here's a clip that Chameleon and the steam buffs will enjoy.(The first few seconds of clip are a bit to cock, it soon sorts itself out though :-)It's 45407 "The Lancashire Fusillier having an epic battle trying to climb Miles Platting bank on load 10. You've got to feel sorry as she puffs and pants away, giving it all she's got. The pace goes down to walking speed. Will she-won't she?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8rreUHzDDoMiles Platting bank is quite a formidable challenge from a standing start really, at 1 mile of 1 in 59 and then 1 in 47 it's quite a slog!Banker engines used to idle away in Manchester Victoria if a train came to grief on the climb, they'd have to go to there assistance and push them up until the 90's. What a thrilling sequence Phil - the mind of the engineering layman (me) just boggles at the thought of the tremendous and perhaps unintended pressure of heat and metal strain on components during such an ordeal.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
