Turner Machinery - Bramley

JB303 on Flickr has photo of Bramley stn takenin 1960 and shows the private sidings for wagons for Turner Machinery.Comments on the photo include :-If you know Bramley you will know that the building to the right of the tracks is Turners, an engineering firm that made tanning machines. Som eof you may be interested in the fact that during the war years they also made bulkhead doors for submarines, an example of which is still visible in the wall of the building still standing on Stanningley Road. It is painted a mucky blue colour. Don't know what is behind it though. This is a good picture showing the push and pull service that ran locally.does this bulkhead door still exist,have passed theremany times and nver noticed it.

I think the Turners factory has long been pulled down.Looks like the small industrial units further up Stanningley Rd have been built on the old site.

May have missed all the changes ovedr the yearssince the Stanningley by-pass opened and have rarely passed Bramleystn on the bus.Leodis is not giving us anything - any former Turner employeesout there ??

If you go up the Old Man of Coniston, they used to have a cable bucket system to move slates from the quarry back in the 1930's.The motor that used to drive it, or at least the casing was still there last time I looked, I was surprised to see Turners, Bramley and Leeds cast into the base.That looked to me to be an old D.C moter, and had to have been there 50 years or so.
