Production of many things has been lost to distant parts.Rowntree/nesltles been a main culprit. And who would think that something as traditional as Pears Soap(who ran a yearly comp for the title Miss Pears with an English rose complection.)It is now made in India

My Dad worked for Gents in Doncaster and Rotherham in the 80s and the M&S contract was mostly offshore then, with some finishing done in the UK to qualify for a standard or some grants. They were bought out by an Indonesian company in 2005 apparently. It retained the rag trade tradition of outworking in South Yorkshire, and in the 80s certainly helped keep the wolf from the door in several mining communities.

Terry's Chocolate (owned by Kraft) is now produced in Belgium, Sweden, Poland and Slovakia.I wonder if this will also be the fate of Cadburys. There's been a lot of fuss about Cadburys being taken over, when Terrys closed in York I don't remember it even being mentioned on the national news.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/th ... 09122.html

No I suppose they were in the second division compared to Rowntrees and Cadbury, but they have a few high profile brands - Chocolate Orange being one. All Gold another. I used to love Waifa (plain chocolate - I hate milk chocolate) but you don't seem to see them any more. They used to produce a dark chocolate assortment called Spartan which were all hard centres. Great.

It was on the News t'other neet about Terry's and they said that it was derelict. The only thing that actually works there now is the clock, which is still working apparently????

Still, no doubt our peoples govmnt will stand in and save the day. Oh... Wait a min.. I think they already have done. Sweet FA as usual.

Bottom line there is there's nothing they can do unless they buy them out!
