Hi everyoneI wonder if anyone can shed any light on this please?A friend of mine often refers to a shop that used to exist in Headingley, called Harry Partaps. I can't find any reference to it on the Internet, so wondered if any of you had heard of it/remember it?Or, is he pulling my leg? Who is/was Harry Partap? Thanks ;o)Boyley.

Hi I'm really not sure! He says it was either near the Arndale Centre or a street off Otley Old Road. And he reckons it was at least 30 years ago. Oh and it was a kind of hardware store if that helps? It's become a bit of a joke now "Where did you get that from, Harry Partaps?" so I'd like to know if there really *was* such a place!ThanksBoyley.

I remember it well. It was next door to Fernakapan's

I've known Headingley very well for more years than I care to think but this has got me baffled. The only possibility I can think of, and it seems very unlikely, is that the reference is to the hardware shop of EDGAR BURY at the junction of North Lane and Cardigan Road. It was still in business quite recently, but is now a lettings agency for student accommodation - what else ??Aaaaah.........now then - there IS a little hardware shop at the beginning of Weetwood Lane, which would qualify as being near the Arndale Centre AND up a side street (just) off Otley Road (not Otley Old Road). Its opposite the side of "The Three Horse Shoes."I bet that's it - been in it many a time when I was at Headingley Bus Depot but can't remember the name just now.

Hi,The hardware shop on Weetwood Lane is The Glendor. There was another hardware shop on Otley Road, between North Lane and The Skyrack, opposite the Yorkshire Bank about 30 years ago. I don't know what it was called though. Other shops I actually can remember around there were the food shops Groococks and Mr Natural's. I remember these mainly from the food smells (in a good way!)

Thank you MarkV - Glendor it is indeed. I don't remember the other hardware shop you mention though, but Groocock's , mmmmm, the fabulous aromas tht drifted from there eh ??, and everything they sold was of the highest quality and not unduly expensive either.By the way, I take it that your signature is derived from your own name ?? - or did you have some connection with the AEC Mark V Regents that plied up and down Otley Road at that time ??
