On behalf of Blakey:Here is the official picture of self as part of 31 Flight at Stalag 11 in November or December 1954. I am fourth from the left on the back row.I must visit the remains of the camp this Spring or Summer to relive the "magic" of Cannock Chase. My word those first nine weeks in the RAF were a real culture shock to sheltered naive types like me, and there were many, and I think I grew up very rapidly and of necessity in that short time. We passed out two days before Christmas - despite constant threats by the drill instructors that we would be there forever if we didn't pull ourselves together. the next posting was a doddle by comparison - six weeks at RAF Yatesbury in Wiltshire where I was taught the fascinating skills of a Radar Operator. Its difficult to believe how primitive and terrifying were the early WW2 radar sets on which we trained. I'll try to attach a magazine picture of the "R3202", which plugged into the wall like a fridge, and then began to throb and hum and get warm in a very menacing manner - all for a tiny flickering trace and a very limited range. As is the same these days, equipment is out of date almost before it leaves the factory.
